Underwriter
Personal-Lines
Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, your main function will be to take charge of the files submitted by the Personal Lines Brokers in order to apply the insurers’ underwriting rules for which we have authority. You will also be called upon to audit the risk portfolio on an ongoing basis, to ensure compliance with the constantly evolving underwriting rules. The objective of the position is to ensure growth in issuer business volume, compliance and application of underwriting rules in order to maintain adequate profitability on all portfolios under management.
Your responsibilities.
Risk analysis
- Analyze, rate and accept new business, renewals and endorsements submitted by Brokers, in compliance with procedures, standards and directives in force.
- Request inspections and follow up recommendations with Brokers to ensure compliance with underwriting rules.
- Submit various risk acceptance options to Brokers and support them through to risk placement
- Submit files requiring specific approval to insurers
- Respond to insurers’ requests for information.
Quality control
- Participate in the development of audit grids and inspection criteria.
- Audit files according to established criteria.
- Analyze and compile profitability statistics for the insurers for which you have authority.
- Identify trends and solutions to profitability problems in an ongoing sector.
Your skills, your potential.
- College diploma
- Property and casualty insurance representative certification from the Autorité des marchés financiers and/or a minimum of 4 years’ experience as an insurance broker and/or 2 years’ experience in personal lines underwriting.
- Organizational skills, good attention to detail, strong analytical skills and good negotiating skills.
- Good computer skills (MS Office, approx. Windows, approx. Google)
- Bilingual to ensure an inclusive experience for English-speaking brokers
- Available to work two evenings a week
