The purpose of this position is to guide insured clients through the various steps of the claims process with the support of a professional and dedicated team. You will be responsible for investigating, assessing, and negotiating with different service providers to simplify the experience for commercial claims clients, as well as for our corporate and high‑value portfolios. At Lareau Insurance Brokers, claims adjusters are key contacts and essential resources.
Your Responsibilities
- Take charge of insured clients throughout their claims process with various insurers:
- Determine applicable coverage.
- Investigate the causes of losses, validate the protections included in the insurance contract, and establish a claims strategy.
- Follow up with the different stakeholders involved in a claim (evaluators, engineers, disaster‑cleanup teams, etc.).
- Negotiate with insurers to obtain the best possible conditions for our clients based on applicable policy wording.
- Assess the application of the proportional rule in claims files.
- Challenge denied claims or files involving the application of articles 2410 and 2411 of the Civil Code of Québec.
- Guide, support, and advise insured clients on the steps required to settle their claim.
- Coordinate communications between stakeholders (Lareau brokers, independent adjusters, clients, etc.).
- Demonstrate proactivity by proposing solutions to issues identified in claims files.
- Be available to travel to major loss sites (fires, water damage, weather‑related events) based on the full analysis of the insured’s file.
- Be available according to an on‑call schedule determined by departmental needs, both during the week and on weekends.
- Build and maintain a network of contacts among various stakeholders to ensure proactive claims handling.
- Review all relevant documentation related to claim settlement (police reports, equipment lists, proportional rule assessments, etc.).
- Complete forms and tracking tables related to claims follow‑up.
- Support the VP, Claims, in various business development activities.
Your Skills & Potential
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law or a Bar license.
- Hold the claims adjustment certification from the Autorité des marchés financiers, or be interested in obtaining it.
- Be available during the day, evening, and weekends for major losses.
- Have 5+ years of experience in commercial claims adjustment or relevant related experience.
- Possess an established network of contacts in the property and casualty insurance industry (an asset).
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and structured work habits.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office and the Windows environment.
- Be bilingual (French and English, spoken and written) to ensure an inclusive client experience for English‑speaking clientele.
