Assistant Underwriter

As an Assistant Underwriter, you will play a key role in analyzing, preparing, and monitoring commercial property and casualty (P&C) insurance files to support the daily work of underwriters. In collaboration with brokers, you will contribute to delivering a high-quality, rigorous service that meets market requirements. Your Responsibilities
- Analyze quote requests and gather the necessary information from brokers;
- Prepare and assemble underwriting files (forms, claims history, supporting documentation) for submission to the underwriter;
- Perform a preliminary risk assessment and flag any issues to the underwriter;
- Complete quotes and assemble the package intended for the underwriter;
- Ensure the administrative follow-up of renewals and file updates;
- Process endorsements within the parameters and authority limits defined by the firm;
- Verify the accuracy of issued policies, endorsements, and certificates, and report any discrepancies to the underwriter;
- Maintain up-to-date underwriting files in the management system according to the firm’s compliance standards;
- Respond to routine broker requests regarding file status, and forward complex requests to the underwriter or underwriting director.
Your Skills and Potential
- Hold a high school or college diploma; any training in insurance is an asset;
- Possess 1 to 3 years of experience in commercial P&C insurance, brokerage, with an insurer, or in a similar administrative role;
- Have a basic knowledge of core commercial insurance coverages (property, liability, commercial auto, special risks);
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook);
- Demonstrate excellent rigor and attention to detail;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment;
- Have a strong command of the French language (advanced level) and functional written English (bilingualism is an asset).
